PROVO, Utah (AP) - Rafael Araujo scored 24 points and grabbed nine reboundsto lead Brigham Young to a 78-64 victory over Wyoming Monday night.
The two teams traded baskets down the stretch, but the Cowboys were unableto make stops so they could narrow the BYU (12-4, 2-1 Mountain West) lead.
Araujo hit 2-for-2 to start the game, but then made only three of his next13 shots.
His free-throw shooting proved to be the difference, as the Cougars dumpedit down to Araujo in the post nearly every possession down the stretch.
Araujo hit seven of 10 free throws in the last six minutes. He had a careerhigh 17 attempts, the same number of attempts the Cowboys had all night. Theyhit 12 of them.
BYU outscored Wyoming 38-20 in the paint. The Cowboys had just four pointsin the paint in the first half.
Wyoming did not have any second-chance points in the first half, and hadjust four in the game.
BYU had 19 assists, with Mark Bigelow making a career-high nine of them. Healso scored 10 points.
The Cougars had nine turnovers, while forcing 17 Cowboy turnovers.
Garner Meads set career highs with 13 points and 10 rebounds for BYU.
BYU forward Jared Jensen sprained his back late in the first half and didnot return.
