LAS VEGAS (AP) - UNLV's Louis Amundson had 15 points and 13 rebounds Monday night and Odartey Blankson added 15 points as the Rebels stopped Wyoming 79-67.
UNLV (9-7, 2-2) rode a trio of 3-pointers from Jerel Blassingame to end the first half with an 18-4 run and take a 49-30 halftime lead.
Wyoming (10-8, 2-3) held the Rebels to just seven points over the first nine minutes of the second half to close the lead to 54-42. The Cowboys continued to chip away at the lead and trailed by only eight with 10 minutes to play before forward Dustin Villepigue hit consecutive baskets to help put UNLV up 68-51 with six minutes left.
The Rebels were hampered in the second half when Blassingame saw only limited action because of a sprained right ankle.
Wyoming's Jay Straight capitalized on Blassingame's absence, scoring 14 of his game-high 21 points in the second half. Villepigue and Blassingame each finished with 12 points for the Rebels, while Andy Hannan had 10. Straight was the only Wyoming scorer in double figures.
