ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) -- Chad Toppert equaled his season high for three-pointers with five and scored 17 points Tuesday to lead New Mexico to an 86-57 victory over Wyoming in a Mountain West Conference game.
UNM (14-9, 5-3) held the Cowboys (14-8, 3-5) to a season-low point total, with Sean Ogirri leading them with 16 points.
Toppert, however, had plenty of help, with Roman Martinez scoring 15 and Tony Danridge and Daniel Faris each contributing 11.
New Mexico never trailed and got off to an 11-3 lead. Although Wyoming cut it to 11-10 on a three-pointer from Brandon Ewing at the 11:10 mark, UNM outscored the Cowboys 30-10 the rest of the way before half time.
The backbone of the stretch was the long-distance shooting from Toppert. Only a flying slam dunk from Danridge interrupted Toppert's string of four three-pointers over a four-minute period in a 14-2 surge that extended the Lobos' lead to 29-14.
New Mexico finished off the half with three-pointers from Martinez, Toppert and Jonathan Wills en route to a 41-20 advantage at the break.
The Lobos had a strong shooting night, hitting 30-of-58 from the field while limiting Wyoming to 17-for-48. UNM went 11-for-22 from behind the three-point arc and converted 15-of-17 from the foul line.
