A 44 point first half by the Cowboys and a 25 point effort from sophomore Ugo Udezue proved to be the difference, as the University of Wyoming defeated Rice University 70-63, Saturday, February 6, in Laramie, Wyoming.
Udezue scored 25 points for the second straight game and Bradley Mann scored 15 points off the bench to lead the Cowboys.
Robert Johnson led the Rice Owls in both scoring and rebounding as he had 29 points and nine boards.
A season-high crowd of 9,091 was on hand to witness the win by the Cowboys, who improved their season record to 14-6 overall, 5-4 in WAC Mountain Division play. Rice, with the loss, fell to 14-7 overall, 5-4 in the WAC. Both teams are now part of a four-team logjam at second place in the Mountain Division, along with Tulsa and Colorado State. UNLV sits alone in first place with a 7-1 conference record.
Wyoming shot only 35% (22/63) for the game, compared to Rice's 42% (22/53), marking the second straight game that the Cowboys had a lower shooting percentage than their opponent and still won the game.
The victory was the eighth straight win for Wyoming in Laramie.
