LARAMIE, Wyo. - Uche Nsonwu-Amadi grabbed an air ball and scored alayup with 2.7 seconds remaining to lift Wyoming to a 62-60 victory overColorado State on Saturday after the Cowboys had squandered a 15-point lead.
Nsonwu-Amadi, who had 17 points, followed a miss by teammate Jay Straight,who had 20 points to lead Wyoming (19-6, 7-3 Mountain West).
It was the sixth straight loss for the Rams (14-11, 3-7) and seventhconsecutive at the hands of the Cowboys.
Colorado State was led by Matt Nelson's 24 points and Andy Birley's 14.
The Rams, who shot 55 percent but had 17 turnovers, rallied from a 31-16deficit to take a 58-57 lead on a 17-foot jumper by Brian Greene with 2:11remaining, the first and only lead for the Rams.
Donta Richardson answered 16 seconds later with a 3-pointer from the leftcorner to put Wyoming back up 60-58.
After Matt Williams tied it with two free throws at the 1:21 mark, the teamstraded turnovers; Straight threw the ball away, then Williams, setting up thefinal play.
After a timeout, Straight drove the lane and put up a soft jumper in thelane. Nelson fell down, leaving Nsonwu-Amadi all alone for the game-winner.Birley's 27-footer at the buzzer was short.
Nelson's spinning jumper and a 3-pointer by Birley cut the Cowboys'advantage to 49-47 at the 10:20 mark.
Nsonwu-Amadi answered with two free throws and a dunk to push Wyoming up53-47.
Straight scored 14 of his points in the first half including a trey with 1.1seconds before intermission, leaving the Cowboys up 36-27 at the break.
He and Uche Nsonwu-Amadi each scored six points in the first six minutes asWyoming jumped out to a 17-6 lead.
Straight's 3-pointer with 4:52 remaining made it 31-16.
Keyed by Nelson's six points, including two layups, CSU went on a 11-2 runto close within 33-27.
