LAS VEGAS (AP) - Matt Nelson had 25 points and three blocks to lead No. 6seed Colorado State over No. 3 seed Wyoming 74-71 in the first round of theMountain West Conference tournament Thursday.
The Rams (17-13) made 8-of-8 free throws in the final 1:23.
Donta Richardson missed a 3-point attempt with one second left that wouldhave tied the game for Wyoming (20-10).
The Cowboys took the lead 68-66 on two free throws from Joe Reis with 1:38remaining. But Nelson responded, hitting two free throws with 1:23 left.
Andy Birley put the Rams ahead for good, 70-68, making two free throws with1:02 left.
Colorado State went 23-for-51 from the field for 45.1 percent, while Wyomingwas 25-of-57 for 43.9 percent.
Uche Nsonwu-Amadi led the Cowboys with 20 points and six rebounds.Richardson scored 17.
Brian Greene had 14 points and six rebounds for Colorado State, and RonnieClark added 10 points.
The tightly contested first half had 14 lead changes and eight ties. TheCowboys led 38-36 at halftime.
