ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Joe Weurding scored 14 points, including 11 in thesecond half, and College of Charleston defeated Wyoming 81-72 Wednesday in theopening round of the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout.

Troy Wheless added 13 points, and Zeke Johnson 12 and eight rebounds for theCougars (3-0).

Marcus Bailey and Donta Richardson each scored 21 for Wyoming (1-1) andRichardson pulled down 10 rebounds.

Two free throws by Marcus Johnson with 8:07 remaining gave the Cougars theirbiggest lead of the first half, 29-14.

Wyoming shot just 6-of-15 from the free-throw line in the first half andfinished 17-of-31.

After Wyoming opened the second with a 3-pointer by Richardson, Charlestonwent on a 12-2 run to go ahead 51-33.

Wyoming closed to 68-62 on a basket by Bailey with 2:25 remaining but nocloser.
