Head coach Steve McClain yells out instructions during the Cowboys' 79-70 setback.

It was the first meeting between the schools since 1978. The Huskies wonthat meeting 85-74, with Romar playing his first season at Washington after twoyears at Cerritos Community College in California.

It was fitting that Romar beat the Cowboys again 24 years later. Otherwise,he would have been one loss from matching the 0-5 start in 1993-94 by BobBender, his predecessor as coach of the Huskies.

Wrenn, last season's Pac-10 newcomer of the year, scored eight points duringa 12-4 run over a six-minute span in the second half. His basket with 11:05remaining gave Washington a 52-42 lead.

The Cowboys charged in the closing minutes, trimming the margin to 70-66with 1:33 to play when Bailey made a steal, drew a foul at the other end andmade both free throws.

But Jones answered for Washington, nailing a 3-pointer at the 1-minute markto put the Huskies up 73-66 and Conroy made two free throws with 44 seconds toplay to make it 75-66.

The Cowboys hurt themselves with 25 turnovers, leading to 33 Washingtonpoints. The Huskies also outscored Wyoming 44-22.

Nate Robinson, a two-way standout who made a huge interception inWashington's 29-26 football victory over Washington State, received a big cheerwhen he entered the game with 15 minutes to play.

Robinson had one tackle in the Huskies' football win over Wyoming this fall. This time, he was called for three fouls in two minutes. He went scoreless buthad a rebound and an assist.
