CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - Junior guard Anthony Blakes sparked Wyoming with 17points as the Cowboys beat Wagner 85-71 for the Cowboy Shootout tournamenttitle Monday night.
It was the 10th time Wyoming has won the tournament, which has been held thelast 16 years.
Blakes, who scored a career-high 19 points Sunday night against LouisianaTech, was named the tournament's MVP.
"It's good to see him playing with more confidence, more confidenceoffensively," coach Steve McClain said.
Wyoming ended the first half with a 14-2 run to take a 41-27 halftime lead.Blakes sparked the run with 9 points.
The Cowboys went up by as many as 18 points in the second half. But Wagnerwhittled the lead down to 7 points - 69-62 - with 4:30 left before Wyomingbuilt it back up to double digits within the final three minutes.
Junior forward LeDarion Jones led the Cowboys with 19 points, eight reboundsand six assists. Ugo Udezue contributed 18 points and 13 rebounds.
Blakes, Udezue and Jones were all named to the five-member all-tournamentteam.
Frantz Pierre-Louis of Wagner led all scorers with 33 points.
The game was slowed by 47 fouls. Wyoming converted 28 of 36 free throws,while Wagner made 24 of 33.
The Cowboys shot 43 percent from the field (25-58), while Wagner made 42percent (21-50).
"It was a nice team effort. Once again, I think we have four guys in doublefigures," McClain said.
Wyoming's next game is at home against Dartmouth on Thursday.
