Now entering its seventh season in the Mountain West Conference, the University of Wyoming will open conference play this season when it hosts the UNLV Runnin' Rebels on Wednesday, Jan. 4 at 7 p.m.
UW has posted a 4-2 (.667) record in its six previous Mountain West Conference openers.
This season's MWC opener for the Cowboys will mark the second time the Cowboys have opened the conference schedule against UNLV. The only other time Wyoming opened MWC play versus UNLV, the Cowboys won in Las Vegas by a score of 69-59 on Jan. 5, 2002.
Wyoming enters Wednesday's conference opener with a 7-6 overall record for the 2005-06 season. The UNLV Runnin' Rebels have posted a 6-6 record this season. Wednesday's game will also be the Rebels' 2006 MWC opener.
The contest will be televised by SportsWest TV. In the state of Wyoming, this week's SportsWest telecast will be carried by KWYF, the UPN station in Casper, Wyo., and KLWY FOX 27 in Cheyenne, Wyo.
Wednesday's UNLV-Wyoming matchup will also be broadcast on radio on the 25-station Cowboy Sports Network, beginning with the pregame show at 6:30 p.m.
Following Wednesday's MWC home opener, the Cowboys will travel to Fort Worth, Texas, to face TCU in the Pokes' first MWC road game of the season on Saturday, Jan. 7. For TCU it will mark its first basketball game as a member of the Mountain West Conference. Saturday's game is scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m., Mountain Time. There will be no TV coverage of Saturday's game.
