Wyoming and New Mexico Open MWC Play for the Fourth Time in Six Seasons

The Wyoming Cowboys and New Mexico Lobos have made a habit of opening Mountain West Conference play. In this, the sixth season of the MWC, Wyoming will open conference play for the fourth time in six seasons against New Mexico this coming Saturday, Jan. 8.

This year's MWC opener for both teams will be the first time the two have opened against each other in Albuquerque. The three previous season openers all came in Laramie. Wyoming won each of those first three MWC openers against the Lobos - 88-83 in 2000, 85-81 in 2003 and 82-77 in 2004. The Cowboys are 4-1 in MWC openers. New Mexico is 3-2.

Wyoming will enter conference play with a 7-5 overall record. New Mexico is 13-2, and has played 12 of its first 15 games at home this season.

No New Mexico opponent has won more games in "The Pit" than Wyoming. The Pokes have won 14 times in "The Pit" through the years. Only BYU, which has also won 14 times, in UNM's famous arena has won as many times.

Saturday's game is scheduled to tip off at 7:00 p.m., Mountain time. All Cowboy Basketball games are carried on the 25-station Cowboy Sports Network. The pregame show begins one-half hour before tip off. There is no television coverage of Saturday's game.
