LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The University of Wyoming will celebrate 100 Years of Cowboy Basketball this coming weekend, as the Wyoming Cowboys host the Utah Utes in a game Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005.
At 4:00 p.m. in the Arena-Auditorium, the Wyoming Cowboys (8-6 overall, 0-1 in the Mountain West Conference) will host the Utah Utes (13-3, 1-0 in the MWC). At halftime of the game, over 70 former Cowboy lettermen and coaches will be introduced. Included in those halftime introductions will be the presentation of the All-Century Team, which was selected earlier this season in voting by Cowboy fans. Nine of the 10 All-Century Team members are expected to be in attendance.
Of Wyoming's 14 games to date this season, nine of the 14 games have been decided by seven points or less. Wyoming is 6-3 in games decided byseven points or less for the 2004-05 season.
Newcomer Justin Williams has made an immediate impact on the Wyoming defense. Williams is averaging 3.07 blocked shots per game to lead the Cowboys, and he is also ranked No. 1 in the Mountain West Conference in blocked shots. The junior, in his first season competing for the Cowboys, had a season high eight blocked shots versus Denver on Jan. 4, 2005. He also had seven blocked shots at Creighton on Dec. 18, 2004.

He scored 26 at Southern Illinois, 21 versus Denver, 20 at New Mexico and 25 versus Indiana-Purdue at Fort Wayne. A year ago, Straight scored 20 or more points in eight games. Seven of those 20-point games came in conference play. In fact, Straight scored 20 or more points against each of the seven MWC opponents in the 2003-04 season.
The week's events will include an unveiling of a wall of honor on the concourse level of the Arena-Auditorium commemorating the 100 Years of Wyoming Basketball. That unveiling is open to the public and will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 15. Following the unveiling a pregame hospitality hosted by EnCana USA and the Cowboy Joe Club will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in War Memorial Fieldhouse. The pregame hospitality is open to all Cowboy fans. Former Cowboy Basketball greats will be available for autographs at that event.
