The Wyoming Cowboys return to the road this week when they travel to San Diego, Calif., for a Saturday game versus the San Diego State Aztecs. The Cowboys are 9-7 overall and 1-2 in Mountain West Conference play. San Diego State is 8-7 and 2-0 in the conference. Saturday's game is scheduled to tip off at 8:00 p.m., Mountain Time, and will be carried on the Cowboy Sports Radio Network.
For Wyoming it will be the second MWC road game of the season. UW lost at New Mexico on Jan. 8 by a score of 75-89. The Aztecs, on the other hand, are playing their first home game in conference play this season. SDSU has already recorded two road wins - at Brigham Young on Jan. 8 by a score of 59-57 and at UNLV on Jan. 15 by an 81-73 margin.
Two of the top guards in the Mountain West Conference will face off Saturday. Wyoming senior point guard Jay Straight and San Diego State sophomore point guard Brandon Heath are the only two players in the MWC this season to rank among the Top Five individuals in the conference in scoring, assists and steals. Straight ranks No. 5 in the MWC in scoring (17.4 points per game), while Heath ranks No. 3 (18.3 ppg). In assists, Straight is second in the conference, averaging 5.13 assists per game, and Heath is third, handing out 3.93 per game. Straight averages 1.56 steals per game to rank No. 3 in the MWC. Heath averages 2.13 steals per game to rank No. 2.
The Cowboys lead the overall series record versus the Aztecs with 31 wins against 23 defeats. UW also leads the Mountain West Conference series against SDSU, by a 7-5 margin.
There will not be any television coverage of the game in the state of Wyoming.
