Wyoming's Nsonwu-Amadi Named MWC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

LARAMIE, Wyo. - Wyoming sophomore center Uche Nsonwu-Amadi isthe Mountain West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week after leadingthe Cowboys (15-4, 6-1 MWC) to a 2-0 record this past week in league play.This is the third player of the week honor for Wyoming this season and thefirst of Nsonwu-Amadi's career.

Nsonwu-Amadi, from Enugu, Nigeria (Indian Hills CC), recorded two double-doubles, had a career-high in scoring and was perfect from the field in two games last week. In the 82-78 win at New Mexico, he tallied a career-best 22 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Nsonwu-Amadi was a perfect 9-for-9 from the floor, 4-for-6 from the free throw line and notched one steal vs. the Lobos.

Nsonwu-Amadi followed up his performance at New Mexico with his second straight double-double (fourth career) in the Cowboys 101-66 victory over San Diego State Saturday in Laramie. In 24 minutes of action, he went 5-for-5 from the field, 4-for-7 from the line and scored 14 points to go along with his 12 boards and two steals.

In 19 games this season, Nsonwu-Amadi is averaging 11.6 points and 8.6 rebounds a game. In conference play, he is scoring 12.6 points and grabbing a league-leading 9.6 boards per game. Nsonwu-Amadi also holds the highest field goal percentage in the conference at 64.3 percent.
