LARAMIE, Wyo. -
Wednesday night the Wyoming Cowboys will host the TCU Horned Frogs in Mountain West Conference action. The game is scheduled to tip off at 6:30 p.m., Mountain Time. Wyoming will enter the game with a 9-13 overall record and a 2-7 mark in Mountain West Conference play. TCU is 12-10 overall and 4-5 in the MWC.
Wyoming's series history with conference foe TCU is the shortest of any of Wyoming's series versus Mountain West Conference opponents. The two teams have played each other only 10 times in the two schools' histories, and only five of those previous meetings have come since the two schools have been members of the Mountain West.
But despite the brief history, the series has been one of the most competitive of any series Wyoming has, with the series tied at 5-5. UW leads the MWC series 3-2.
One clear advantage that Wyoming has over the Horned Frogs is it has won the previous three meetings played in Laramie.
Wyoming won one road game in Fort Worth, back in 2006, and split the two neutral-site meetings in the series. This week's meeting will be only the 11th all-time between the two schools.
When the Cowboys host the Horned Frogs on Wednesday, they will be looking to build on their most recent home win over Cal State Bakersfield a week ago.
Wyoming is currently 6-4 at home this season, and is 1-3 in conference home games.
All of Wyoming's conference home games have been close ones. The Cowboys defeated Colorado State, 73-58, for their one conference home win this season.
Wyoming lost two heartbreaking home games against New Mexico in double overtime (92-99) and Air Force in one overtime (62-64) earlier this year. The Pokes also lost a 10-point contest to BYU in the Arena-Auditorium in a game that saw Wyoming trailing by only two at halftime to the league-leading Cougars.
In their last five games this season, the Wyoming Cowboys have won three of those five games for their most successful stretch of the 2007-08 season.
Wyoming defeated Colorado State, 73-58, in Laramie on Jan. 26. UW then followed that up with a road win at Utah, 69-64. The Pokes dropped their next game at home to BYU, 63-73, before defeating non-conference foe Cal State Bakersfield, 78-53, on Feb. 6. The Cowboys lost their most recent game at New Mexico last Saturday.
TCU defeated San Diego State last Saturday in Fort Worth, Texas, by a score of 68-62. The Horned Frogs had lost four consecutive conference games prior to the win over the Aztecs. TCU is 3-2 on the road this season, and is only 1-3 in conference road games.
Wednesday's game will be televised live on The Mtn. The Cowboys Sports Network radio broadcast will begin with the pregame show at 6 p.m.
