Wyoming junior forward Josh Davis is the Mountain West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week after leading the Cowboys (16-5, 7-2 MWC) to a 1-1 record this past week in league play. This is Davis' first player of the week honor this season and third of his career.
Davis, from Salem, Ore. (Salem Academy), averaged 20.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.5 blocks in two games last week. He also shot 73.7 (14-of-19) from the field and 81.3 percent (13-of-16) from the free throw line.
In the 80-78 loss to UNLV at home last Monday, Davis notched his sixth double-double of the season (22nd career) with a career-high 28 points and 10 boards. He went 9-for-14 from the floor and 10-for-12 from the line. Wyoming rebounded with a 72-70 win vs. Colorado State Saturday. Davis was a perfect 5-for-5 from the field as he scored 13 points, grabbed five rebounds and blocked a career-high six shots. The six blocked shots are also a conference game-high this season.
Davis leads the MWC with 9.7 rebounds a game and ranks seventh in scoring at 13.6 points per game. He also ranks in the top 10 in blocked shots (No. 3 - 1.81), free throw percentage (No. 8 - 71.4) and steals (No. 8 - 1.38).
