The last homestand for the Wyoming Cowboys this season will begin Saturday with a 4:00 p.m. game versus UNLV in Wyoming's Arena-Auditorium. UW will also host San Diego State on Monday night, Feb. 21. It will be the last home weekend for four seniors - Alex Dunn, Dion Sherrell, Jay Straight and Jerry Webb.
After gaining a split on the road last weekend, Wyoming (14-9, 6-4 in the Mountain West Conference) remained in third place in the conference race. The Cowboys are only a half-game back of second place Air Force, which is 6-3 in conference play. Utah leads the MWC at 10-0 in conference play.
Jay Straight was named MWC Player of the Week this past Monday for his performance in wins over New Mexico and Brigham Young. Straight averaged 23.5 points per game and 8.5 assists per game in the two victories.
UNLV (11-11, 3-6 in the MWC) recorded a spectacular comeback win on the road at San Diego State last Saturday. The Runnin' Rebels were down 10 points with 29 seconds to play at San Diego State, but came back to tie the game, force overtime and eventually win the game 93-91.
Wyoming continues to rank second in the MWC in Ratings Percentage Index (RPI). UW is currently ranked No. 81 in the nation by CollegeRPI.com. Only Utah with a No. 18 ranking in the RPI is ranked higher among Mountain West Conference members.
Saturday's Wyoming-UNLV game will be televised by SportsWest TV and will be carried in the state of Wyoming by KTWO-TV of Casper, Wyo. The Cowboy Sports Radio Network will also broadcast the game beginning one-half hour prior to gametime.
