COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Wyoming’s Josh Adams has been named the Mountain West Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. The weekly accolade is the first of Adams’ career and first for a Cowboy this season.
The senior guard averaged 26.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 4.0 steals in Wyoming’s game against Fresno State and Colorado State last week. For the two games, he shot 51 percent (19-of-37) from the field, 46 percent (11-of-24) beyond the arc and 80 percent (4-of-5) at the charity stripe.
Against the Bulldogs last Wednesday, Adams posted 16 points and seven rebounds, while tying careers highs with eight assists and four steals in 40 minutes of action. At the Rams last Saturday, he poured in 37 points, one shy of his career high, for his eighth 30-point effort this season. He went 9-of-16 from deep to tie Wyoming’s single-game records for threes made and threes attempted. Maurice Alexander had the same amount against New Mexico on Feb. 9, 1991. The nine triples tie for seventh in the NCAA this season. Adams also added eight rebounds, seven assists, two blocks and tied his career high again with four steals in 36 minutes. Wyoming’s 18-point victory was its largest in Fort Collins since 1981 and gave the Pokes their fifth-straight win over the Rams.
For the season, Adams is averaging 24.5 points per game to pace the MW and rank fourth in the NCAA, while his eight 30-point games are tied for second in the NCAA. He also ranks 19th nationally in threes per game at 3.1 and 84th in three-point percentage at 40. His nine triples against CSU moved him into second in Wyoming’s single-season history with 81 in 2015-16 and second on Wyoming’s career list with 174 during his time in brown and gold. His four steals give him 138 in his career, good for eighth in Cowboy history.
Wyoming continues its season by hosting San Diego State on Wednesday at 8 p.m. MT in the Arena-Auditorium. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Wyoming Athletics Ticket Office at 877-WYO-FAN1 (877-996-3261) or online at GoWYO.com.
