March 10, 2015

ST. LOUIS - Wyoming's Larry Nance Jr. has been named to the U.S. Basketball Writers Association's All-District VIII Team, the organization announced Tuesday. The senior forward is the first Cowboy to earn the accolade since Brandon Ewing in 2008-09. The award is voted on by the USBWA's national membership of 900-plus.

A native of Akron, Ohio, Nance has paced the Pokes at 16.1 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game this season, while shooting 53 percent from the field. He is in the MW's top 10 in seven different statistical categories, while ranking 54th in the nation in field-goal percentage and 44th in defensive rebounds per game. He was also named All-Mountain West First Team and All-Defensive Team on Tuesday, while sharing MW Defensive Player of the Year with San Diego State's Skylar Spencer. Nance is the Cowboys' first defensive player of the year since JayDee Luster in 2011-12 and Wyoming's second in head coach Larry Shyatt's four seasons back in Laramie. Nance was also All-MW First Team and All-Defensive Team last season, becoming the first Poke to earn two first-team accolades since Marcus Bailey in 2000-01 and 2001-02. A Cowboy has been on the MW's All-Defensive Team each of the past four seasons.

Nance is one of five MW representatives on the USBWA's All-District VIII team, which is comprised of Wyoming, Utah, Idaho, New Mexico, Colorado, Nevada and Montana.
