On Tuesday, the Mountain West and Missouri Valley Conferences announced the schedule for the second annual MWC-MVC Challenge and the Wyoming Cowboys will host the Indiana State Sycamores on Saturday, December 4.
This will mark the fourth all-time meeting between Wyoming and Indiana State on the basketball floor. Wyoming leads the series 2-1. In the last meeting between the two teams the Cowboys beat the Sycamores 69-57 in Laramie on Dec. 30, 2002. The Cowboys are 2-0 in Laramie against Indiana State.
Indiana State reached the postseason this past season for the first time since 2001, playing in the College Basketball Invitational. The ended the season with a 17-15 overall record and a 9-9 mark in MVC games. They lost at Saint Louis in the first round of the CBI, 63-54.
All nine challenge games will take place the week of Dec. 1-5, 2010. The agreement between the MWC and MVC is in its second year of a four-year term. Nine challenge series games will be played each year, and each conference will host a total of 18 games in the four-year period.
Last year, the MVC won the series, 5-4. The two leagues combined for four NCAA Tournament victories, which included first-round wins by BYU and New Mexico, and a Sweet 16 appearance by Northern Iowa. The leagues combined for a total of 11 postseason berths and 10-postseason wins.
The entire 2010-11 Cowboy basketball schedule will be announced at a later date.
