Akacem will enter UW as a freshman, while Corner will redshirt the1999-2000 season, and will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Akacem is a 6-8, 180-pound forward, who played for the HaaglandenCobras in The Netherlands last season. A former member of the DutchNational Team, Akacem was born in Boulder, Colo. He is expected to play thepower forward spot for the Cowboys. An outstanding student, Akacemparticipated in The Hague's International Model United Nations in 1996. Heis the son of Suzanne Akacem-Laurijssens and Kada Akacem. His father is auniversity professor.

"Fayssal (Akacem), like any foreign player, will have to make theadjustment to the college game and to this level of play," said McClain."He's played on a club team in The Netherlands that has given him experienceplaying against some older, more experienced players, but the college gameis more physical, and he will have to adapt to that. Fayssal has areputation of being a very good rebounder, and has a great knack of gettingthe basketball off the boards."

Corner is a 6-0, 185-pound two-guard, who played the last twoseasons at Iowa State. Corner appeared in 21 games for the Cyclones duringthe 1998-99 season, starting one game. The son of Beverly and KavinJones, he played his junior and senior seasons of high school at West BrookHigh after moving from San Diego, Calif.

"Paris (Corner) has enrolled at UW this fall, and will pay his ownway right now," McClain said. "He's transferring from Iowa State afterplaying there for two years. He is a young man who I recruited hard at TCUwhen he was coming out of high school. He'll have to sit out this yearafter transferring. Back in his high-school days, he was really anexplosive, athletic guard who could score, and he gives us an older playerin the program who has experience in Division I basketball. Hopefully,he'll have a great year this year as he redshirts and works on his game. Heis eligible to practice with us, which will be good for him to get to knowour players and our system."

The 1999-2000 season begins for the Cowboys on Monday, Nov. 1 with ahome exhibition game against the California All-Stars. The game is set totip off at 7:00 p.m., Mountain time.
