The Wyoming Cowboy Basketball team will begin its 2006-07 season hosting the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs in an exhibition game on Saturday, Nov. 4. The game is scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m.
Steve McClain is entering his ninth season as head coach of the Cowboys. He welcomes back six letterwinners and two starters from last year's team that made a run all the way to the Mountain West Conference Tournament Championship game before falling 64-69 in overtime to regular-season champion San Diego State.
Leading the way for the Cowboys this season with be the guard tandem of sophomore Brandon Ewing and junior Brad Jones. Ewing was named to the MWC All-Tournament team as only a freshman, and also earned Third Team All-Conference honors. The Chicago native averaged 13.2 points per game last season to become only the fourth Cowboy in history to average double figures in scoring as a freshman. Ewing also set new MWC records for points scored in all games and in conference games.
Jones averaged 10.0 points per game and 3.5 assists a year ago. He was one of the top assist men in the MWC, ranking No. 5 in the league.
Saturday's opponent, CU-Colorado Springs, will enter Saturday's game 0-1 in exhibition games this season, having lost at Weber State on Nov. 1 by a score of 67-86. UCCS is a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) and competes at the NCAA Division II level.
There is no television coverage of Saturday's game, but the Cowboy Sports Network will broadcast the game on radio over its 26 affiliate stations. The pregame show begins one-half hour before tipoff.
