LARAMIE, Wyo. -
Since the 1982-83 season, the Wyoming Cowboys have played at least one exhibition game to begin each season. The 2007-08 season will tip off for the Cowboys on Saturday, Nov. 3 with an exhibition game versus Regis University of Denver, Colo. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m., Mountain Time, and will be broadcast on radio over the Cowboy Sports Network beginning with the pregame show at 3:00 p.m.
Wyoming holds a 36-6 (.857) record in exhibition games. As the name suggests, exhibition games do not count on a team's record for the season. Versus teams from foreign countries, Wyoming has posted a record of 16-2 (.889). Against United States All-Star teams, the Pokes have a record of 14-4 (.778). In exhibition games played against other college teams, UW is 6-0 (1.000).
First-year Wyoming head coach Heath Schroyer fields a team including eight returning lettermen and seven newcomers. The Cowboys are led by the Mountain West Conference's top two returning scorers - junior point guard Brandon Ewing and senior two guard Brad Jones. Ewing led the MWC in scoring a year ago, averaging 19.9 points per game, and Jones ranked third, with an 18.1 average.
Following Saturday's exhibition game versus Regis, the Pokes will return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 6 with their final exhibition game of the season versus Colorado State-Pueblo. That game next Tuesday is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m.
The first regular-season game for UW will be Saturday, Nov. 10 against Colorado-Colorado Springs in a 7 p.m. contest.
