LARAMIE, Wyo. -
University of Wyoming Athletics Director Gary Barta announced on Wednesday that the Wyoming men's basketball exhibition game on Nov. 13, which had originally been scheduled to tip off at 12:30 p.m., Mountain time, has been moved to 1:00 p.m.
The basketball game between the Wyoming Cowboys and the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs will precede the Wyoming vs. Utah football game that will be televised live from UW's War Memorial Stadium beginning at 5:00 p.m. on ABC television.
"In an effort to make the day as enjoyable for our fans as possible, we wanted to schedule the two games as close together as we could," said Barta. "We feel the 1:00 p.m. start will give our fans an opportunity to fully enjoy both events.
"We want to encourage our fans to come out and see Coach Steve McClain's new squad. Jay Straight and Alex Dunn are two of the top returning players in the Mountain West Conference and junior-college transfer Justin Williams has been selected as the preseason Newcomer of the Year in the league. I know Coach McClain and his staff are looking forward to building on their past success, having won two of the first five Mountain West Conference Championships."
The second half of the day's doubleheader will highlight one of the featured college football games in the nation, as the Wyoming Cowboys, in search of their first bowl appearance since 1993, host Utah, a team that is challenging for a spot in one of the four Bowl Championship Series (BCS) games.
"We are excited about Coach Joe Glenn's Cowboys appearing in one of the featured games in the country next week," said Barta. "We hope Cowboy fans will come out in force to show people across the country, who will be watching that television game, just how proud we are of Cowboy Football.
"I also want to thank our radio partner, Dave Montgomery and the Cowboy Sports Network, for working with us to schedule these two games so closely together."
Next Saturday's football game is the final home game of the 2004 season for the Pokes, and the final home game for 10 Cowboy seniors. Wyoming will enter the game versus Utah with a perfect 5-0 home record this season.
The Cowboy Basketball squad's game against Colorado-Colorado Springs will be the second exhibition game of the season for UW. Wyoming will open its 2004-05 season on Tuesday, Nov. 9 with an exhibition game versus Colorado School of Mines. That game will tip off at 7:00 p.m. in UW's Arena-Auditorium.
