Cowboy Basketball to Play Lone Exhibition Game on Saturday Night

This Saturday night, the Cowboy basketball team will play its only exhibition game of the 2008-09 season against the Colorado School of Mines. The game will tip-off at 7 p.m. in the Arena-Auditorium and will be broadcast live on the radio, over the Cowboy Sports Network, beginning with the pregame show at 6:30 p.m.

The game will be the only exhibition of the year for the Cowboys before opening the regular season on Fri., Nov. 14 against Cal State Bakersfield.

Second-year Wyoming head coach Heath Schroyer returns three starters and four letterwinners from the 2007-08 season. The team will be led by senior Brandon Ewing, who was named to the Preseason All-Mountain West Conference team last month. Ewing, who has led the MWC in scoring in each of the past two seasons, was also recently selected as a Preseason Honorable Mention All-American.

Saturday's exhibition game will also mark the first in a Wyoming uniform for redshirt senior Sean Ogirri. Ogirri redshirted last year to satisfy NCAA transfer rules after coming to Wyoming from Wichita State. In his three-year career with the Shockers, Ogirri averaged 9.7 points and 1.9 assists in 97 career games. He also helped guide the Shockers to the Sweet 16 of the 2006 NCAA tournament by averaging 17.5 points per game in the tournament.

Since the 1982-83 season, the Cowboys have opened every season with at least one exhibition game. In those exhibition games, Wyoming holds a 38-6 (.864) record. The Cowboys have also won their last 17 exhibition games dating back to the 1999-00 season. In exhibition games against other college teams, the Pokes are a perfect 8-0.
