News Release Regarding the Sudden Death of Josh Nelson, Brother of UW Basketball Player Travis Nelson

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

On the evening of Nov. 15, Josh Nelson, the brother of University of Wyoming basketball player Travis Nelson, died suddenly of natural causes in Laramie, Wyo. The University of Wyoming and the UW Athletics Department mourns the death of Josh, who was 22 years of age.

"At such a tragic time, our focus is on doing anything we can to help Travis (Nelson) and his parents, Belinda and David, get through this difficult time," said University of Wyoming head basketball coach Steve McClain. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the Nelson family."

"Our hearts go out to Travis and his family," said UW Athletics Director Tom Burman. "We want them to know that we are here to support them in any way we possibly can. We share in their sorrow, and we know that Cowboy fans everywhere have Travis and his family in their prayers."

Josh Nelson had moved to Laramie in September of 2006 so that he could watch his brother Travis play for the Cowboys. Josh was employed at Hastings Books, Music and Video in Laramie.

Funeral services are pending.

Information on Nelson's death was not released at an earlier time out of respect for the family, and to allow the family time to notify loved ones.
