LARAMIE, Wyo. -
Fresh off an impressive 84-58 opening night win over Cal State Bakersfield, the Cowboy basketball team will host Prairie View A&M in the second game of the 2008-09 season on Wed., Nov. 19 in the Arena-Auditorium.
Wednesday's game with the PVAMU Panthers will mark the second meeting between these two schools. The first time they met was during the 2002-03 season and the Cowboys came away with an 85-55 win on Dec. 22, 2002 in the Arena-Auditorium.
Prairie View A&M (1-3 overall) has had a busy November thus far, already playing four games. They opened the season at the 2K Sports Classic hosted by UCLA on Nov. 12-13. They lost to the host Bruins by a score of 82-58, then lost to Weber State by a score of 78-68. Next, they traveled to Missouri where they lost 86-65 on Nov. 15. The Panthers picked up their first win of the season on Monday night with a 90-39 home win over Champions Baptist.
In last Friday's win over Cal State Bakersfield, the Cowboys were led by redshirt freshman Afam Muojeke, who was playing his first game in the brown and gold. Muojeke, a Jamaica, Queens, N.Y. native, scored a game high 31 points. That total is a tie for the 15th best individual scoring performance in Arena-Auditorium history and also marks the first time a Cowboy has reached the 30-point plateau since the 2006-07 season.
On the night, Muojeke was great from the free-throw line and converted 15 of 16 attempts. Those 15 made free-throws are the fourth most in a single game in Arena-Auditorium history and a tie for the ninth most in school history. Muojeke also pulled down five rebounds and had three steals in 33 minutes of play.
In addition to Muojeke, three other Cowboys scored in double figures on opening night. Senior Brandon Ewing scored 14, fellow senior Tyson Johnson scored 12 and, in his first game with the Cowboys, redshirt senior Sean Ogirri scored 11.
Wyoming also had four players that were playing their first game in a Cowboy uniform score. Those four Cowboys combined for 51 points, which was 61 percent of the Pokes' scoring. In addition to Muojeke and Ogirri, freshman A.J. Davis and junior Mahamoud Diakite added nine combined points.
Following Wednesday night's game with Prairie View A&M, the Cowboys will host Johnson & Wales on Saturday night. The game will begin at 6 p.m. in the Arena-Auditorium.
