COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -
Wyoming junior Brad Jones was named the Mountain West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, marking his first career award.
A 6-0 guard from Marked Tree, Ark., Jones led the Cowboys to wins over two teams that earned bids to last year's NCAA Tournament. On Wednesday, the junior scored 15 points, grabbed seven rebounds and handed out six assists in a 76-71 victory against Montana. Three days later, he pumped in a career-high 35 points while also leading the team with eight rebounds and six assists as he carried the Pokes to a 93-87 victory over UAB. Jones' 35 points, which fell one shy of the MWC single-game record for a junior, tied for the fifth-best individual scoring performance in the 25-year history of the Arena-Auditorium. For the week, Jones averaged 25.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 6.0 assists while shooting 42.4 percent (14-of-33) from the field, 71.4 percent (5-of-7) from 3-point range and 85.0 percent (17-of-20) from the free throw line.
