A Look at the Matchup
The Cowboys have begun the 2012-13 campaign with a 5-0 mark, their best start since starting the 2008-09 season with the same record. Wyoming earned three easy wins over the likes of Western State (62-42), North Carolina Central (73-60) and South Dakota (71-51), before edging Southern, 67-60, with a second-half rally. The Pokes earned a 69-60 win at Northern Colorado on Wednesday in their latest action. The victory was another second-half rally for UW, as it gave the squad their first win in a road opener since the 2002-03 season. Wyoming ranks third in the Mountain West in scoring defense by allowing 54.6 points per game and fourth in rebounding defense at 30.0 per game. Offensively, Wyoming is second in threes per game (8.2) and fourth in three-point percentage (33.3). The Cowboys have shot 78 percent at the free throw line for second in the MW. UW's plus 4.2 turnover margin is third in the conference and its plus 1.2 assist-turnover margin is second.

Head coach Rod Barnes enters his second season at the helm for CSU Bakersfield in 2012-13, after guiding the Roadrunners to a 16-15 overall record and berth in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament last season. He returns three starters and seven letterwinners from that squad. CSUB has started this season with a 1-4 mark, but three of the four losses have come by less than eight points. The Roadrunners opened with a 62-60 loss to UT Arlington, dropped road games at California (78-65) and Sacramento State (85-67) and lost a 76-73 home game to Loyola Marymount. Most recently, CSUB picked up its first win of the season with a 77-74 home win over Westmont on Tuesday night. The Roadrunners are averaging 68.4 points on the offensive end and 75.0 points on the defensive end. Opponents are shooting 46 percent from the field and 40 percent beyond the arc against CSUB, while the Roadrunners are connecting on 38 and 32 percent themselves.
