Wyoming's Mory Correa Cleared to Play by the NCAA

Dec. 5, 2002

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

University of Wyoming head basketball coach Steve McClain announced today that UW junior forward Mory Correa has been cleared to compete by the NCAA. Correa will be available for Wyoming's game Thursday night, Dec. 5 at the University of Washington.

"We are happy to have Mory (Correa) back," said McClain. "With the injury situation with Uche (Nsonwu-Amadi) not allowing him to play right now, it is certainly good to have another athletic inside player available to us."

Correa, like many other foreign players, was required to sit out of competition at the start of the 2002-03 season by the NCAA for previously playing on a European team that included some professional players on its roster. The NCAA has been reviewing each individual foreign player's situation to determine how many games each player would be held out of competition. Correa had sat out the first four regular-season games for the Cowboys, before being cleared to compete by the NCAA on Thursday morning, Dec. 5.

Correa transferred to Wyoming after competing at Pratt Community College in Pratt, Kan., for the past two seasons. He is a native of Fontenay Le Fleury, France.
