The University of Wyoming Cowboy Basketball team will host the Kansas State Wildcats this Saturday, Dec. 11, in a game to be played in theWyoming Shootout in Casper, Wyo.

After starting the season with three straight wins, Wyoming (4-2) has dropped two of its last three without the help of leading scorer Steve Leven (20.8 ppg.), who is out with a knee injury. The Cowboys are led by seniors Jay Straight (16.7 ppg.) and Alex Dunn (11.7 ppg.). Straight has led the Cowboys in scoring the last three games.

After missing the first five games of the 2004-05 season due to breaking a bone in his right, shooting hand, senior guard Dion Sherrell will be back in the lineup for UW this Saturday. Sherrell saw some playing time against the Dayton Flyers this past Tuesday.

UW trails the all-time series with Kansas State 5-7. The last meeting between the two teams was Dec. 3, 2003, which KSU won 80-67 in Manhattan, Kan.

The Wildcats, coached by Jim Wooldridge, are off to their best start in seven years at 5-0, but will hit the road for first time this season. Senior Jeremiah Massey leads Kansas State in both scoring (17.2 ppg.) and rebounding (8.0 rpg.).

Through the years, the Wyoming Cowboys have enjoyed a great deal of success playing in Casper. Since the 1983-84 season, the Cowboys have played annually in Casper. Wyoming has posted a 30-7 (.811) record in Casper games entering this week's game. From the 1983 Shootout through the 1998 version, the Shootout was a two-day event featuring four men's teams. Beginning in December of 1999, the Shootout format was changed to a one-day event featuring a doubleheader with the Wyoming Cowgirls and Wyoming Cowboys each playing.

The format will once again be a doubleheader with the Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team taking on Ohio University at 5:30 p.m. followed by the Cowboys versus Kansas State at 8:00 p.m.
