Colorado Springs, Colo. - University of Wyoming senior Adam Waddell has been named the Mountain West Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday. The weekly accolade is the first of Waddell's career and first for a Cowboy since Feb. 23, 2009.
Waddell was a workhorse in the Cowboys' big 65-54 win at Colorado last Friday. The center scored a season-high 17 points, all in the second half, to help UW snap a 23-game road losing streak. After missing his long field goal attempt in a first half that ended tied at 30-30, Waddell went 5-of-6 from the field and 7-of-9 from the free throw line over the final 20 minutes. He also grabbed five rebounds and blocked a shot while committing no turnovers in a season-high 31 minutes of action. The victory, Wyoming's first on an opponent's home court since Feb. 28, 2009, pushed the Pokes' win streak to seven games and ended CU's 27-game non-conference win streak at the Coors Events Center.
Wyoming currently sits atop the MW standings at 9-1 and continues its season by hosting UC Irvine in Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Arena-Auditorium.
