LARAMIE, Wyo. -
This Saturday, the Wyoming Cowboys will conclude the non-conference portion of their home schedule when they host the Lamar Cardinals of Beaumont, Texas. Wyoming enters Saturday's contest with a 7-2 record, while Lamar brings a 4-6 record into the game. Saturday's game will tip off at 1:00 p.m. from Wyoming's Arena-Auditorium.
The Cowboys have had a week off since their last game - a 69-83 loss to current No. 8 ranked Wichita State. UW held a one-point lead, 51-50, with 10:37 remaining in last Saturday's game versus WSU, but the Shockers came back to capture the victory in a game played in Casper, Wyo.
Lamar is coming off an 86-77 overtime win over BYU this past Wednesday in Beaumont, Texas.
Wyoming and Lamar will be playing each other for only the third time in the two schools' histories. UW has won both the previous meetings - 77-68 in 1986 in the Championship Game of the Cowboy Shootout in Casper, Wyo.; and 79-71 in 1989 in a game played on Lamar's home court.
Wyoming fans will recognize a familiar face to Wyoming Basketball fans when the Lamar Cardinals come to town. Lamar head coach Steve Roccaforte was a former assistant coach for the Wyoming Cowboys under Steve McClain. Roccaforte was an original member of McClain's coaching staff at Wyoming back in the 1998-99 season. He remained on the Cowboy coaching staff for the 1999-2000 campaign before moving on to serve as an assistant coach at Memphis for three seasons. After his stint at Memphis, Roccaforte served as an assistant coach to current Lamar Athletics Director and former head coach Billy Tubbs. Roccaforte was promoted to head coach at Lamar prior to this season. He is in his first season as a college head coach.
There is no television coverage of this week's game. The radio broadcast on the Cowboy Sports Network will begin one-half hour before tipoff at 12:30 p.m. on the 25 affiliate stations of CSN.
