Pokes Finish Second at PING Cougar Classic

The University of Wyoming men’s golf team finished second at the Ping Cougar Classic on Tuesday in the final tune-up for the Cowboys before the Mountain West Championship. Wyoming finished the tournament with a three-round total of 855 (-9) for UW’s third under-par team score of the season and second straight. Sophomore Drew McCullough led the Pokes finishing tied for fifth. The tournament was held at the Riverside Country Club in Provo, Utah and featured 10 teams and 60 individuals.

McCullogh tallied his second-highest finish of the season, as he ended play tied for fifth with a 208 (-8) three-round total. He shot a 71 (-1) in Tuesday’s final round. Senior Kamrin Allen fired a 68 (-4) on Tuesday to finish the tournament tied for seventh at 211 (-5), as Allen moved up ten spots in the individual standing.

Junior Ryan Wallen finished the regular season tying for 19th with his even par score of 216. He shot a 73 (+1) in the final round. Sophomore Arron Lickteig shot a 72 (E) in the final round to finish at 220 (+4) tying for 32nd. Sophomore Glenn Workman rounded out the Cowboy lineup finishing tied for 53rd at 232 (+16).

Sophomore Quintin Pope had a solid tournament playing as an individual finishing tied for 11th at 213 (-3). He fired a 75 (+3) in the third round. Freshman John Murdock tied for 47th with a three-round total of 225 (+9).

The host Cougars of BYU won the tournament with a team score of 829 (-35). The Cougar’s Austin Christensen won medalist honors with a score of 205 (-11).

The Cowboys return to action with the Mountain West Championship on April 22-24 on the Omni Tucson National Course in Tucson, Ariz.
