Pokes Earn Hard Fought Halloween Victory Over TCU

October 31, 1998

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

Wyoming won its sixth straight game Saturday night in Ft. Worth, beating TCU before an ESPN2 national audience, 34-27.

The Cowboys produced a 17-point fourth quarter to secure the victory and move their record to 7-1 overall, and 5-0 in the Western Athletic Conference.

Running back Marques Brigham rushed for 145 yards, his fifth straight 100-yard day, and scored a huge touchdown on a 71-yard run. Quarterback Jay Stoner threw for 198 yards and a touchdown.

Kicker Aaron Elling had a big night with a 54-yard field goal, his career longest, and a 36-yarder.

But maybe the biggest play of the night came late in the second quarter. With the Cowboys trailing 17-10, cornerback Robbie Duncan intercepted an errant TCU pass and romped 58 yards to the end zone to tie the game going into the intermission. That play gave the Cowboys the momentum.

The Cowboys remain on the road this week, meeting Colorado State on Saturday night for another ESPN2 game. Kickoff is set for 7:05 mountain time.
