Wyoming's Chukwurah to Play in the 2001 Rotary Gridiron Classic

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

University of Wyoming seniordefensive lineman Patrick Chukwurah will be participating in the 2001 RotaryGridiron Classic presented by TYCO on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, in Orlando,Fla. This year's game will be the Third Annual Gridiron Classic, and willbe televised live on ESPN2 beginning at 11:00 a.m., Mountain time.

The game is played in the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Fla., and pitsTeam Florida against Team USA. Team Florida is made up of college seniorswho are either natives of the state of Florida or played at universities inthe state of Florida. Team USA, which Chukwurah is a member, is comprisedof college seniors from around the country. Among the more notable playerson the Team Florida squad are: quarterback Jesse Palmer of Florida,quarterback Rashard Casey of Penn State and running back Jeremi Rudolph ofUNLV. Team USA will include: Chukwurah, defensive tackle Hans Olsen fromBYU and wide receiver David Martin of Tennessee.

Team Florida will be coached by Lindy Infante, former head coach ofthe Indianapolis Colts (1996-97) and Green Bay Packers (1988-91). Team USAwill be coached by Buddy Ryan, former head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles(1986-90) and defensive coordinator of the 1985 World Champion ChicagoBears.

Chukwurah earned First Team All-Mountain West Conference honors thispast season in voting by MWC head football coaches. He was also a FirstTeam All-MWC selection of the Football News. Chukwurah recorded 100 tacklesduring the 2000 season, including seven quarterback sacks for 57 yards and19 tackles for losses for 82 yards. He also was credited with 15quarterback hurries, forced three fumbles and recovered one fumble. Heranked fourth in the Mountain West Conference in tackles, averaging 9.1tackles per game. He led the conference in tackles for losses and rankedfourth in quarterback sacks.

Chukwurah is the second Wyoming Cowboy to play in the RotaryGridiron Classic. Former Cowboy wide receiver Wendell Montgomery played inthe 2000 edition.

Dr. Jerry Punch will serve as the play-by-play announcer for theESPN2 broadcast. He will be joined by Lee Corso, who will add colorcommentary. Holly Rowe will serve as the sideline reporter.

The Rotary Gridiron Classic is one of five College All-Star footballgames featuring the nation's best college seniors. The Rotary GridironClassic is the official college All-Star game of the National FootballPlayers Association. The other four college All-Star footballgames include the Blue-Gray Classic, which was played on Christmas Day,2000. The East-West Shrine Game from San Francisco will be played onSaturday, Jan. 13 beginning at 2:00 p.m., Mountain time on ESPN. The SeniorBowl will be played on Saturday, Jan. 20 in Mobile, Ala., beginning at 11:00a.m, Mountain time on ESPN, and the Hula Bowl from Maui, Hawai'i, will alsobe featured on ESPN on Jan. 20 beginning at 6:00 p.m., Mountain time.
