The top recruit from the state of Wyoming, the No. 1 rated quarterback from the state of Oklahoma, one of the Top 10 running backs in the state of California, six high school All-State performers from the state of Colorado and a linebacking corps that has been described by University of Wyoming head coach Joe Glenn as the best group of linebackers his staff has ever recruited highlight the University of Wyoming's 2007 football recruiting class. Glenn announced the 2007 Cowboy signing class on Wednesday before a packed room of media and fans.

Clayton Kirven, an offensive lineman from Buffalo, Wyo., was rated as the top recruit in the state of Wyoming by Rivals.com.

Chris Stutzriem, who played his high school football at Lawton Eisenhower High School in Lawton, Okla., is both the top rated high school quarterback in the state of Oklahoma this season and the No. 18 overall rated high school prospect in Oklahoma by Rivals.com.

Running back James Davis of Monrovia, Calif., was ranked by SuperPrep.com as the 10th best running back in the state of California.

A very talented group of high school recruits from Colorado includes three individuals who earned All-Colorado honors for all classifications from The Denver Post. Marcus Felker, a defensive lineman from Thornton High in Thornton, Colo.; Brian Hendricks, a linebacker from Burlington, Colo.; and Levi Salmans, an offensive lineman from Lafayette, Colo., who played at Monarch High School; all earned All-Colorado recognition from The Denver Post. They are joined by three other Colorado high school seniors who earned All-State honors in 2006 -- Alex Hays, an offensive lineman from Palisade; Travis Hillen, an offensive lineman from Thornton High; and Gabe Knapton, a linebacker from Mead, Colo., who played at Longmont's Skyline High School.

Hendricks and Knapton are joined by fellow high school linebackers Mark Oliver of Mt. Carmel High School in Chicago, Ill.; and Bryson Studnicka of Clay Center High School in Clay Center, Neb., to form an outstanding incoming linebacking corps.

"We are real excited with this group of young men," said Glenn. "Every year you go into recruiting with an idea of what positions you are looking to fill on your roster, and I feel like we hit our numbers right on the head this year. We lost several linemen to graduation on both sides of the ball, and so the offensive and defensive line were two areas we wanted to strengthen.

"At the skill positions, we feel extremely good about adding an outstanding young quarterback, a couple of very talented running backs, some quality wide receivers and three quality defensive backs.

"We also feel like we have a nice blend of experience, with four junior college transfers to go with our high school recruits.

"If there is one position as a group that impresses me in this class it is the linebacking corps. In all my years in college football, this is the best linebacking class our staff has ever recruited."

Glenn also recognized the efforts of the many individuals on campus who aided in the recruitment of the 2007 class.

"I can't say enough about my coaching staff and our current players in the way they helped put this class together," added Glenn. "Our coaches worked a lot of hours and did an outstanding job of identifying the young men we wanted to bring into our program and then going out and convincing them that Wyoming was the place for them. And our current players did a great job of hosting the recruits when they came to campus.

"Behind the seasons, our staffs in the equipment room, academic counseling, the training room and the strength and conditioning area dedicate a lot of their time in meeting with the young men when they come on campus.

"Finally, I want to thank all the faculty and staff who go above and beyond in meeting with our potential student-athletes when they visit our university. They are always so helpful in providing these young men with all the information available on our great university."

This year's recruiting class includes players from 12 different states.

The national letter-of-intent signing period began Wednesday, Feb. 7 and ends April 1, 2007.

Wyoming has two remaining scholarships available.
