Wyoming Head Football Coach VicKoenning completed his coaching staff Thursday with the hiring ofJim Pletcher as assistant head coach and outside linebackers coach.
Pletcher comes to the University of Wyoming from the University ofMemphis where he had coached since 1995. His responsibilities at Memphisranged from defensive coordinator to coaching linebackers and punters.
"We are tremendously excited to attract an individual of Jim'scaliber," Koenning said. "He is a long-time associate of mine and has beena coordinator on all levels. He is an individual with great class andintensity. He will also be a great asset to me personally as an assistanthead coach. He will be coaching one of the key areas of our football team."
A 1973 graduate the University of Delaware, Pletcher earned abachelor's degree in physical education. He earned a master's in guidanceand psychological services from Springfield (Mass.) College in 1976.
Pletcher began his collegiate coaching career at Springfield Collegein 1975 as the secondary coach. He moved on to Northeastern (Boston, Mass.)University in 1981 where he was the defensive coordinator and secondarycoach through the 1983 season. He became defensive coordinator andsecondary coach at the University of Connecticut in 1983, before moving onto James Madison (Harrisonburg, Va.) in 1985.
During his stint at James Madison, Pletcher worked as the defensivecoordinator as well as secondary and linebacker coach through his 10 seasonsthere. His defensive unit was consistently ranked in the nation's top 20.While there he was responsible for the staff, game plans, signal calling,the academic programs, alumni relations and spring clinics.
He moved to the University of Memphis in 1995 where he was defensivecoordinator and linebacker coach. He also coached outside linebackers andpunters.
