One of the first signs spring is on its way is when college football teams around the country begin spring football practice. The Wyoming Cowboys will open their spring drills on Monday, March 19 with a practice to begin at 3:15 p.m. in War Memorial Stadium.

The Cowboys will conduct a total of 15 spring practices -- the maximum allowed by the NCAA. Of those 15 practices, two scrimmages are planned. The first scrimmage will be held on Saturday, March 31 and the spring game is scheduled for Saturday, April 14. The times and details of those scrimmages will be announced at a later date.

Head coach Joe Glenn and his coaching staff are entering their fifth season at Wyoming. UW concluded the 2006 season with a 6-6 overall record and a 5-3 conference mark. UW tied for third place with Utah in the nine-team Mountain West Conference. That is the highest finish for the Cowboys in conference play in the eight years they have been members of the MWC.

Glenn will welcome back 44 lettermen and 14 starters from last year's squad. Leading the way will be 2006 Second Team All-MWC selections: Wade Betschart, a senior tight end/H-Back from Torrington, Wyo.; and Ward Dobbs, a junior inside linebacker from Fairbanks, Alaska. Two other Cowboys who earned Honorable Mention All-MWC accolades a year ago also return in: senior wide receiver Michael Ford from Aurora, Colo.; and senior cornerback Julius Stinson from Victorville, Calif.

A couple of Wyoming freshmen received Honorable Mention Freshman All-America honors from the Sporting News last season. Those two are current sophomores: Karsten Sween, a sophomore quarterback from Inyokern, Calif.; and Aric Goodman, a sophomore place-kicker from Englewood, Colo.
