LARAMIE, Wyo. -
When Wyoming completes its football spring training on April 16, crews will begin installation of the new artificial surface for War Memorial Stadium.
After 55 years of service, the stadium's natural turf will be a memory, and a part of Cowboy football tradition. Fans, however, will be able to take a little bit of that tradition with them beginning Tuesday, April 19, when the UW Intercollegiate Athletics Department offers the "old sod" for sale.
Facility crews will cut the turf on Monday, April 18. It will be available for sale the following day (April 19), and continue through Sunday (April 24), from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Cost is fifty cents per foot, and will be sold on a first-come-first-served basis. Fans may enter the stadium's southeast gate to purchase as much turf as they wish. All sales proceeds will supplement the Cowboy Joe Club Scholarship Fund.
Fans, who will be responsible for transporting the sod to their vehicles, are asked to pay with checks only. Athletics department personnel will be on site during the six-day period to handle sales.
