Dimel Announces Mid-Year Scholarship Recipients

April 6, 1999

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

University of Wyoming head football coach Dana Dimel announced today that two Wyoming Cowboys were awarded football scholarships beginning with the 1999 spring semester. Redshirt freshman Allen Bridgeman, from Laramie, and redshirt junior Alex English, who transferred from Valparaiso University, are the two Cowboys who earned scholarships.

Bridgeman walked on to the Wyoming Football team in the fall of '98 after enjoying an outstanding career at Laramie High School. Bridgeman, who redshirted this past season, is competing for a spot at strong safety.

English, who transferred to Wyoming in the fall of '98, is originally from Hockley, Texas. He redshirted this past season, and will enter the 1999 campaign as a junior. English is competing for playing time as a receiver.

"Both Allen (Bridgeman) and Alex (English) are physical, athletic players," said Dimel. "They will definitely play a lot on special teams for us this coming season, and should both challenge for starting spots in the next couple of years.

"It's great to put another Wyoming native on scholarship. Allen has worked very hard this year and has definitely earned this honor. Alex came to us from Valparaiso University where he played at the NCAA I-AA level. He's certainly showed that he can play at the Division I level, and like Allen, has worked extremely hard his redshirt season."

The Wyoming Cowboys concluded 1999 spring drills on Friday, April 2. UW will kick off the 1999 season on Sept. 4 at defending National Champion Tennessee. The Cowboys open their home schedule on Sept. 11 with Weber State.
