Six Cowboy Walk-ons Receive Football Scholarships

April 24, 2002

Six Wyoming football walk-ons have been rewarded for their hard work and dedication by being awarded scholarships for the 2002 season, Head Coach Vic Koenning announced Wednesday.

The six are Ryan Calahan, a senior cornerback from Morrill, Neb., Andy Deselms, a senior linebacker from Holyoke, Colo., Luke Donovan, a junior punter from Spearfish, S.D., Kevin Fulton, a sophomore running back from Plano, Tex., Shane Powell, a sophomore linebacker from Yuma, Colo., and Scott Sorensen, a senior tight end from Grand Junction, Colo.

"These guys have been outstanding contributors to this program," Koenning said. "They have worked hard, and they have done a great job. We want to help guys like these who have worked hard both athletically and academically.

"Our walk-ons are an integral part of our program, especially when there are only 85 scholarships. This brings our numbers closer to our scholarship limit."

Calahan is listed on the Cowboy three-deep at boundary corner, Deselms is the back-up at will linebacker, Donovan is the Cowboy punter, and returns as one of the league's best, Fulton is on the depth chart at A-back, Powell is on the three-deep at mike linebacker, and Sorensen is the back-up at tight end.
