LARAMIE, Wyo. - University of Wyoming Athletics Director Tom Burman and head women's basketball coach Joe Legerski will tour the Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies on Tuesday as part of a fundraising effort.
Burman and Legerski will tour the facility in Mills, Wyo., as part of the "Cowboy Kickoff Against Hunger," a fundraising event on Aug. 9 in Casper to benefit the food bank. The event will include a banquet with a silent auction and team-inspired raffle prizes. Dave Walsh, the voice of the Cowboys, will be master of ceremonies. The banquet aims to give University of Wyoming football fans a chance to support an important cause, while at the same time demonstrating support for the upcoming Cowboy season.
The banquet begins at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 9 in the Casper Events Center and tickets are $75 per person via the event web site, available here. Corporate table sponsorships are available through the Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies.
Sponsored by Cameco Resources, the banquet will have a distinctive Wyoming flair with appearances from the UW Marching Band, the cheerleaders, Pistol Pete, Cowboy Joe pony and the Bronze Boot.
"We respect Cameco Resources and the Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies for their contributions to this important cause," Burman said. "If UW can play a small role in assisting, we are thrilled to do so."
Headquartered in Cheyenne, Cameco Resources is America's largest uranium producer, with mines near Glenrock and Wright, while its exploration and development office is in Casper. The Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies, based in Mills, is the backbone of the state's fight against hunger, providing food and services to more than 200 independent pantries and food programs throughout the state.
"We're thrilled with the amount of interest we've already received for this banquet, and we encourage everyone who hopes to attend to register right away," Cameco Resources President Paul Goranson said. "Space is limited and tickets are going fast, which we see as great news when it's for such a worthy statewide cause."
Shanna Harris, executive director of the Food Bank, added, "Cameco and its employees already do so much for our organization and for other important non-profits throughout the state. And with UW Football as a partner, the combined support will really make an impact."
