The Mountain West Conference has announced itsESPN television schedule for the 2001 football season.
ESPN/ESPN2 will air 17 games involving Mountain West Conference teams duringthe '01 season. This is in addition to the five appearances the MWC will makeon ABC that were previously announced. All total, Mountain West Conferenceteams are scheduled to play in 31 games this season that will be televised ona national or regional basis. Additional local point-to-point telecasts willbe announced at the institutional level.
Coverage of the Mountain West Conference on ESPN begins with the BCA Classicfeaturing BYU vs. Tulane on Saturday, August 25th at 2:30 MT. Thursdaynight football on the ESPN Networks kicks off with a pair of MWC gamesAugust 30th when UNLV travels to Arkansas for an ESPN telecast, while SanDiego State hosts Arizona on ESPN2.
The MWC is in the third year of a seven-year contract with televisionpartners ABC/ESPN/ESPN2/ESPN Regional Television. The networks combine tocarry 19-23 conference and/or non-conference games per season, with anaverage minimum of two games on ABC, four on ESPN, five carried by ESPN2,and eight syndicated "Mountain West Game of the Week" packages on ESPNRegional Television.
Through it first two seasons, 95 games involving teams from the MWC havebeen televised, including 35 national appearances and 29 regionaltelecasts.
