LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The first event of the 2009 college football season for the Mountain West Conference will take place next Tuesday and Wednesday in Las Vegas, Nev., when the MWC Football Media Days kick off a new season.
Each of the Mountain West's nine member schools will bring their head coach and two student-athletes to the event, which will also be attended by media representatives from around the Mountain West Conference.
Christensen will be one of three new head coaches in the MWC in 2009. He will be joined by New Mexico's Mike Locksley and San Diego State's Brady Hoke as first-year head coaches. Christensen coordinated a Missouri spread offense that was ranked in the Top 10 in the nation in scoring offense, passing offense and total offense each of the past two seasons. Missouri concluded the 2007 season ranked No. 4 in the final national polls, which was the highest season-ending ranking in school history. Christensen was named the National Offensive Coordinator of the Year by Rivals.com in `07, and he also was the runner-up for the Frank Broyles Award in `07, which honors the nation's top assistant coach.
Fletcher has earned Second Team All-Mountain West Conference honors each of the past two seasons. Unrein has been an Honorable Mention All-MWC selection the past two years. They will anchor a Cowboy defense that returns eight starters from a unit that ranked No. 38 in the nation in total defense and No. 31 in pass defense in 2008.
During the two-day event, the Mountain West will release a preseason media poll ranking the conference's teams, and will release a preseason All-Conference squad, also selected by the media.
This year's event will take place at the Green Valley Ranch Resort in Las Vegas.
