Three Cowboy Football Players Selected to the 2007 Preseason All-MWC Team

July 23, 2007

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Mountain West Conference announced its 2007 Football Preseason All-Conference team today as selected by members of the league's media. Media members, as well as MWC head coaches and select players, are in Las Vegas, participating in the annual MWC Football Media Day.

The Wyoming Cowboys had three players selected to the squad: senior tight end Wade Betschart, junior linebacker Ward Dobbs and senior cornerback Julius Stinson.

TCU led all schools with seven student-athletes selected to the preseason all-Conference team. BYU and Utah each had four players selected, followed by New Mexico and Wyoming with three apiece. Colorado State and UNLV each had two players chosen, while Air Force had one.

The 2007 preseason team features 16 players that were all-Conference selections in 2006, including eight first-team honorees.

Wyoming's Wade Betschart earned Second Team All-MWC honors as a junior in `06. Betschart has the reputation of being a versatile receiver and a crushing blocker. He often comes out of the backfield as a lead blocker from his h-back position. The Torrington, Wyo., native will also be one of the leaders of the Cowboys as a senior. He has started 17 of 35 careergames, including 11 of 12 in `06. The only game he didn't start as a junior was when Wyoming began the game in a four wide receiver set versus Air Force. Betschart enters his senior season having played in all 35 games during his Wyoming career.

Cowboy junior linebacker Ward Dobbs earned Second Team All-MWC honors as asophomore in 2006. Dobbs is a dynamic performer for the Cowboy Defense, and is the leading returning tackler, recording 69 last season. He moved to one of the inside linebacking spots in `06 in Wyoming's new 3-4 scheme after playing an outside linebacking spot in 2005. He will team with fellow inside linebacker Luke Chase to form one of the best inside-linebacking tandems in the MWC in 2007.

UW senior cornerback Julius Stinson earned Honorable Mention All-MWC honors as a junior in `06. Not only is he an outstanding cover corner, but he ranked third on the Wyoming team in tackles in 2006 with 57, and he led UW in solo tackles with 40. He will team with fellow senior cornerback Michael Medina to form one of the best corner tandems in the MWC in `07.

Aaron Brown (TCU) was named Preseason MWC Offensive Player of the Year, Tommy Blake (TCU) was selected Preseason MWC Defensive Player of the Year, Louie Sakoda (Utah) was chosen Preseason MWC Special Teams Player of the Year and Ricky Brewer (Colorado State) was tabbed Preseason MWC Freshman of the Year.
