Colorado State Tabbed Favorite To Win Mountain West Conference

CORONADO, Calif. - For the second consecutive year Colorado State was selected to win the 2002 Mountain West Conference football title in a pre-season poll of MWC media members.

The Rams - coming off a 7-5 season and a New Orleans Bowl championship - have either won outright or shared each of the first two Mountain West Conference titles (1999, 2000). CSU claimed 5-of-16 first place votes and 113 points.

2001 Las Vegas Bowl champ Utah was a close second with 111 total points and eight first place votes.

Last season's MWC champion, BYU garnered two first place tallies and 107 points for third place in the poll. UNLV and Air Force were picked fourth and fifth, respectively, with the Falcons receiving one first place vote.

New Mexico was tabbed for the sixth spot with Wyoming and San Diego State tying for seventh.
