2002 Cowboy Football Junior Honors Candidates

July 31, 2002

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

University of Wyoming juniors Casey Bramlet, Malcom Floyd and Ryan McGuffey have been, and will be the focus of an exciting Cowboy air attack. Each was honored for their contributions last season and have been awarded preseason accolades heading into the 2002 season. Following are bios on each player and their honors recognition.

Casey Bramlet, Junior, Quarterback, 6-4, 220, Wheatland, Wyo.

Casey Bramlet

Casey Bramlet will be one of the top returning quarterbacks in the nation in 2002. He ranked No. 14 in NCAA Division IA in total offense as a sophomore in 2001. Bramlet was named Second Team All-Mountain West Conference by both MWC coaches and MWC media members in 2001. He will be a leading candidate for the 2002 Davey O'Brien Award, which honors the nation's top quarterback. Among 2002 returning quarterbacks, he would rank eighth in total offense, based on his 2001 production.

Malcom Floyd, Junior, Wide Receiver, 6-6, 210, Sacramento, Calif.

Malcolm Floyd

Malcom Floyd has sometimes been overshadowed by his wide receiver running mate and fellow junior Ryan McGuffey. But as a sophomore in 2001, Floyd began to attract the attention he deserves. Both the Football News and The Sporting News selected Floyd as a First Team All-Mountain West Conference selection in 2001. Floyd should join McGuffey as a Fred Biletnikoff Award candidate in 2002. He, McGuffey and current senior Brock Ralph will be the starting receiving trio for the third consecutive year in 2002. That group should form one of, if not the best receiving corps in the Mountain West Conference. Floyd enters his junior season needing only 19 catches to move into the Wyoming career Top 10, and he needs 434 yards to move into the UW Top 10 in career receiving yards. Will begin the 2002 season having caught at least one pass in 19 consecutive games.

Ryan McGuffey, Junior, Wide Receiver, 6-1, 204, Riverton, Wyo.

Ryan McGuffey

Ryan McGuffey will be a leading All-America candidate in 2002. He is coming off a 2001 season in which he was a First Team All-Mountain West Conference selection as chosen by both MWC Coaches and MWC Media. McGuffey was also one of only 32 receivers nationally to be placed on the Fred Biletnikoff Award Watch List in 2001. As a junior in 2002, McGuffey should be one of the leading candidates for the Biletnikoff Award, which honors the top college receiver each season. He ranked eighth in the nation in receptions as a sophomore, averaging 7.22 catches per game. McGuffey was once again voted a captain by his teammates in 2002. He was the first Cowboy in Wyoming Football History to be named a team captain as a sophomore (in 2001), and currently is only the third Wyoming football player to be a two-year captain. The other two were: Galand Thaxton (in 1986 and '87) and Leo Caires (in 2000 and 2001), both Thaxton and Caires were linebackers. McGuffey is, amazingly, already ranked No. 6 in school history in receptions with 128, and he needs only 137 yards to break into the UW Top 10 in receiving yards. He enters his junior season with 1,447 receiving yards. McGuffey has caught at least one pass in every game he has played at UW -- 20 straight games.
