As the 2005 college football season quickly approaches, two University of Wyoming Cowboys have earned additional preseason honors. CollegeSportsReport.com selected UW senior wide receiver Jovon Bouknight to its Second Team All-America squad. UW junior cornerback Derrick Martin was also honored by CollegeSportsReport.com, earning Third Team All-America honors.
At the wide receiver position, Derek Hagan of Arizona State and Greg Lee of Pittsburgh were named to the First Team All-America squad by CollegeSportReport.com, while Bouknight and Dwayne Jarrett of Southern California were selected Second Team All-Americans. Martin was one of four defensive backs named Third Team All-American. He was joined by Mike Huff of Texas, Jason Simpson of Missouri and Alan Zemaitis of Penn State on the Third Team.
For Bouknight, it was his third preseason All-America recognition this summer. He was named a preseason Third Team All-American by Athlon and earned Honorable Mention All-America honors from Street & Smith's. Martin's other preseaon All-America recognition came from Street & Smith's, which also named him an Honorable Mention All-American entering the 2005 season.
Other Mountain West Conference players selected by CollegeSports.com to its All-America teams included: New Mexico running back DonTrell Moore (Fourth Team All-American) and Utah defensive lineman Steve Fifita (Fourth Team All-American).
A total of 103 players representing 71 teams were named to the 2005 CollegeSportsReport.com preseason All-America team. Southern California and Texas topped the teams by representing four positions each (Southern Cal with three players as Reggie Bush was named second team running back and fourth team punt return specialist).
