Moving On To The Next Level

Some of the most talented players in Cowboy history donned the Brown and Gold in the decade spanning 2000-2009. Iconic players like quarterback Casey Bramlet, linebacker Patrick Chukwurah, cornerback Derrick Martin and safety John Wendling had their names called in the NFL Draft during those seasons.

Bramlet went to the Cincinnati Bengals in the seventh round of the 2004 draft and played for three teams from 2004-08. Bramlet is the UW career leader in total offense (9,575 yards), career passing yards (9,684), pass attempts (1,378), completions (767) and TD passes (56). Chukwurah is fourth on the UW career sacks list (27) and first on the single-season tackles for loss list with 19 in 2000. He went on to play for four teams from 2001-08. Wendling was drafted in the sixth round in 2007 by the Buffalo Bills and plays for the Detroit Lions currently. He is 10th on the UW all-time career interceptions list with seven.

Another UW standout from the era was safety Chris Prosinski, who was drafted in the fourth round by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2011. From 2007-10, he made 373 tackles, fourth all-time in UW history.

Other talented UW players who played in the same era who received NFL free-agent contracts included Alvester Alexander, Jovon Bouknight, Aaron Elling, Malcom Floyd, Tashaun Gipson, Adam Goldberg, Corey Mace, Devin Moore, Ryan Otterson, Mitch Unrein and Scottie Vines.

About the #120CowboyTough Countdown

The 2013 season will mark the 120th anniversary of Wyoming Cowboy Football. To commemorate that anniversary, we will be counting down some of the great memories and moments from Wyoming football history over the next eight weeks leading up to the Cowboys' season opener at Nebraska on Aug. 31.

The 2013 "Countdown to Kickoff" will take Wyoming fans through Cowboy Football history chronologically. The first week will highlight some of the memorable moments from the period from the first season in 1893 through the 1940s. Then each successive week, the countdown will recall great moments from the 1950s, `60s, 70s, 80, 90s, 2000s and the current decade.

Our countdown will only touch on some of the greatest moments, but we encourage you, the Wyoming fans, to share your favorite memories through the official University of Wyoming Athletics Twitter (@wyoathletics) and Facebook pages (Wyoming Cowboys). Fans are encouraged to use #120CowboyTough when sharing their memories.

Enjoy the countdown, and we look forward to seeing you in War Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 7 for the home opener versus the Idaho Vandals.
